The Grace of Roadracing. The Excitement of Moto Cross
Motorcycle Racing has been a family sport with us for many years. I raced Moto Cross when I was a teenager and let my sons start racing Enduro when they were ten, eight and three.
Over the past few years the youngest is the only one still at home and racing. We discovered Motard racing, Mini Roadracing as it is also known, three years ago, and I was more than happy to get my youngest out of the dirt and woods and on the asphalt. The trips to the hospital from the dirt and woods were hard on us all. I wish this type of racing had been around when my oldest sons were younger. This type of racing is a lot safer and just as exciting as MX. Mini Motards or are also a great place for people to learn how to handle a bike on the street. Anyone who comes out and tries this form of racing soon discovers that all bikes, including Mini's can be over ridden. The good thing about it is that going down because a front tire looses traction on a mini at thirty of forty miles an hour does not hurt near as much as doing is at seventy of eighty miles an hour on a big bike. Nor does it cause as much damage. Another good thing about Mini Motard is that there are no jumps. With the extended suspension travel of the Moto Cross bikes now they have made the jumps so big that they are more dangerous than they were thirty years ago when a four inch suspension travel was considered a lot.
